Signing the Decision on extending Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant

The purpose of the extension is to strengthen the peak capacity for the national power system (NPS) and to make full use of the annual water discharge volume in the flood season of the existing hydropower plant for power generation. Besides, the extension will still enhance the frequency stabilization capability for NPS, participate in reducing system cost and working intensity of the existing units for extending lifetime of their equipment, saving maintenance and repair costs.
The additional items in this case include mechanica eqiupment as the water intakes and penstocks, and technological equipment as the Francis hydraulic turbines, vertical shaft three-phase synchronous power generators with a capacity of 240 MW each, step-up 15.75/220kV transformers combined in a GIS, and the other auxiliary eqiupment.
With this extension, Hoa binh HPP should increase its average generation for 479 million kWh per year and generation at peak hours in dry season for 264.4 million kWh per year.
The project for extending Hoa Binh HPP estimated at a total investment level of VND 8,596 billion has been implemented since 2017 and expected to be put into commercial operation in 2022-2023.
