PetroVietnam protests against CNOOC’s operations offshore Central Viet Nam

- On May 2 2014, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) towed its semi-submersible deep water rigs HD-981 and positioned it to a location at coordinates of 150 29' 58" N and 1110 12" 06" E. On May 4, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) sent a letter to CNOOC Chairman and CEO expressing their vehement protests and demanded CNOOC immediately stop their illegal acts and pull the drilling rig HD-981 out of Vietnam’s waters.

On May 4, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) sent a letter to CNOOC Chairman and CEO expressing their vehement protests and demanded CNOOC immediately stop their illegal acts and pull the drilling rig HD-981 out of Vietnam’s waters
The action has run counter to the cooperation spirit of the two national oil companies and is not in line with international oil exploration practices as well as the motto of friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and China.
PetroVietnam also requests CNOOC not repeat similar acts in the future.
