Renewing mining technologies

Under the program, 69 projects were implemented during the 2010-2015 period from VND183.5 billion funded by the state budget and nearly VND200 billion from the private sector, said Nguyen Huy Hoan.
Some of the major projects include increased motorization and technological modernization rates in pit mining and identifying technologies applicable to coal pits in Quang Ninh Province and the research and development of mining technical and technological solutions applicable at opencast coal mines in Quang Ninh undertaken by the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group’s Institute Of Mining Science And Technology; the research and production of new chemical products of low corrosion to be used in the treatment of sandstones in oil reservoir in order to increase the efficiency of oil extraction undertaken by the Vietnam Petroleum Institute’s Center for Application and Transfer of Technology; and the research, design and manufacture of people-carrying cabled winches to be used in inclined wells in pit mines undertaken by the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group’s Institute of Energy and Mining Engineering.
Mining law and regulations have been reviewed and amended to further strengthen state management of mining activities. Meanwhile, mining companies have invested more in scientific research and development activities to improve mining efficiency.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade suggested that the Technological Innovation and Modernization in Mining Industry until 2015 with a Vision towards 2025 project focuses on the modernization of mining technologies in a suitable manner to meet demand based on public–private partnership models, encourage the research, development, transfer and application of environmentally-friendly mining technologies and specific mining technologies for difficult-to-mine mines located in the Red River Delta, increase the oil recovery factor and oil mining efficiency, improve gas processing technologies, and mine and process apatite.
