The Prime Minister has improved the project on restructuring power sector in 2016 – 2020 with orientation up to 2025.

The Prime Minister has promulgated a Decision on correcting and supplementing the Project “Restructuring the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) 2012- 2015 period".

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai signed Decision No. 1243/QD-TTg to approve the "Project to restructure Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) for the period until the end of 2025".

From the beginning of 2024, the national load will grow by about 10.9% compared to the same period in 2023. Among them, the North will increase by 10.8%, the South by 12% and the Central region by 6.9%.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just signed Decision No. 1689/QD-TTg, dated December 26 approving the 5-year production, business and development investment plan (period 2021 - 2025) of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin).

According to the project “The Energy Development Planning in Vietnam to 2025 with a vision up to 2035”, the primary energy demand has a number of changes: The energy development scenario (Proposed Scenario - PS) in planning period based on the GDP growth scenario in 2016 – 2035 at an average level of 7%/year in combining with energy saving rates (ESR) compared to business- as-usual (BAU) energy development scenario as 4.1% in 2020, 5.9% in 2025, 8.1% in 2030 and 10.0% in 2035, and a 15% CO2 reduction target by 2030.

The Prime Minister has approved Decision No. 1208/QĐ - TTg dated July 21st, 2011 on the National Master Plan for Power Development for the 2011 - 2020 period with the vision to 2030 with the detailed articles as follows:

On Jan 11, 2016, in Hanoi, National Power Transmission Corporation, Electricity of Viet Nam (EVNNPT) held a Conference to summarize implementing 2015 tasks and deploy 2016 plans.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) informed that the electricity generation of the whole system in July 2023 reached 26.20 billion kWh - an increase of 7.1% in comparison with the same period in 2022. The accumulated in the first 7 months of 2023, electricity generation of the whole system reached 160.58 billion kWh - an increase of 1.9% in comparison with the same period in 2022.

According to information of Vinacomin, although Covid-19 pandemic impact, in the first 8 months of 2020, the production and business results of the group have reached: crude coal production of 27.06 million tons, coal sale of 30.74 million tons, soil and rock shoving of 130.81 million m3 increased by 27% in comparison with the same period of the last year, pit digging of 167.711m, aluminum production of 943.149 equivalent tons, electricity generation of 7.1 billion kWh, total turnover of 84.864 billion VND, profit of 1,300 billion VND and the budget payment of 12,900 billion VND increased by 3% over the same period of 2019.

On Feb 1, 2016, in Hanoi, Petrovietnam held a conference to summarize restructuring work for the period of 2012-2015, tasks and measures for the period of 2016-2020. The conference aims to assess, review all aspects, from direction for equitization, divestment to re-organization the organizational structure and operation of the units under the Group.

The country’s geographical location, climate conditions and agricultural activities give Vietnam in general and its northern plains and midland area in particular a plentiful potential and diversity of renewable energy resources (RE) which are exploitable and useful such as hydropower, biomass, wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, biofuel resources and other new energy resources. However, so far effective exploitation and utilization of renewable energies in general and renewable electricity in particular in these areas are still limited in comparison with their potential. 

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) informed that the electricity output of Vietnam's power system in October 2022 reached 21.9 billion kWh and in 10 months of 2022 achieved 225.98 billion kWh, increasing 6.1% over the same period.
