There was a remarkable change in the use of electricity among sectors in southern provinces in the first six months of 2016, according to the Southern Power Corporation of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVNSPC).

The Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) has invested several trillions of Vietnamese dong in rural power systems in 21 provinces and cities in the south. As a result, people’s living conditions have improved. In 2018, the power sector will continue to expand power grids, especially in remote areas.

In a bid to improve the efficiency of industry promotion activities, southern cities and provinces are targeting a number of measures including building a common support mechanism, promoting the exchanges of industrial and handicraft products and encouraging investment into industrial zones and complexes.

In the morning of February 24th, in Long Son communa, Vung tau town Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the groundbreking ceremony of Southern Oil Refinery Complex (Long Son Petrochemicals - LSP) – a key project of the country.

Long Son Petrochemical Company Limited (LSP) has just made a proposal to the Prime Minister on increasing the total investment capital of the Southern Petrochemical Complex project to 5.15 billion USD, including an equity of nearly US$ 2.1 billion, accounting for 40 % total investment. 

The Southern Power Corporation under Electricity of Vietnam (EVN SPC), commenced the construction of 26 power works and put into operation 19 110kV-transmission lines in the first half of this year, with a total investment of VND2.63 trillion (US$115.72 million), reaching 32.4% of their target.

The working group of the Prime Minister headed by the Chairman of Government Office - Minister Mai Tien Dung has just concluded checking results of Petrovietnam. In the conclusion, Minister Dung asked Ministry of Finance to advise the government, Prime Minister to consider a special mechanism on providing guarantee of parent company to the subsidiaries for foreign loans in proportion to PVN capital contribution in Long Son Petrochemical Company Limited to invest  Petrochemical Complex in Southern Vietnam.

On March 29, 2017, in Hanoi, Long Son Petroleum Company Ltd (LSP) signed the documents on a Join Contract, Company Charter and a Contract of contributed capitals transfer from Qatar Petroleum Company (QPIV) to Thailand Siam Cement Group (SCG).

In 2016, Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) has powered 619 power grid projects with a total investment level of about VND 6,548 billion. Among these projects there are many important projects.

On March 28, 2022, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the French Development Agency (AFD) held a ceremony for signing a credit agreement for a preferential loan without a government guarantee valued 80 million Euros for the Southern distribution grid project invested by Southern Electricity Corporation (EVNSPC).

The Electricity of Vietnam’s Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) has reported that it increased investment in key southern provinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Tay Ninh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau for industrial development in 2018. 

The situation of implementing expected LNG combined cycle gas turbines (CCGTs) in the southern Vietnam shows that the development prospective of power plants after 2020 will be  concerned very much.

On October 24, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung received Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, Chairman and CEO of SCG Group (Thailand) – the Investor of Southern Petrochemical Complex Project.

On May 22, in Hanoi, the United State Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) signed an agreement on USTDA fund of US$ 1.4 million for EVN to implement the project "Technical support for studying development of the gas power projects in Southern Vietnam".

The 220 kV South Saigon - District 8 transmission line was successfully powered by the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) and construction companies on June 23 evening.
