Ensuring the progress of the smart power grid development project is an important factor to reduce power transmission, distribution costs and other costs to develop power sources. This objective was also stated in Prime Ministerial Decision 1670/2012/QD-TTg.

The Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to speed the plan of the smart power grid development, enhance the power system operation efficiency, and stimulate the saving and efficiency energy use.

On the morning of September 24, 2019, in Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), Thuan An Town, Binh Duong Province, Becamex IDC Corporation, Sembcorp Smart Energy Solutions company (a member of Sembcorp Industries) and VSIP Joint Venture company held a ceremony for signing business cooperation and introduction of solar power projects.

The business conference: “Smart Cities” is the last event in the series of thought leadership events on emerging topics in Vietnam, which are initiated and co-organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the German Embassy in Vietnam, and Siemens. This prestigious event attracted more than hundred delegates, who are senior government policy and decision-makers, business leaders, specialists and media to come together and discuss emerging challenges and solutions for the development of smart and sustainable cities in Vietnam.

The Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) held a ceremony for signing a grand fund agreement for the project on building the implementing plan and overall architecture of information technology (IT) to develop smart power grid in EVNCPC to 2020, with a vision to 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has just signed Decision No.519/QĐ-TTg on approving the investment policy of the project "Smart power grid application to develop renewable energy sources and effective energy use Energy (SGRE-EE), funded by the grant ODA of German Government.

The Central Power Corporation and Finland’s ABB Oy Company launched mini Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system projects in the central and Central Highlands regions with the aim to develop a smart power grid there.

The Prime Minister has approved the Draft agreement  between Vietnam’ Government and the German Reconstruction Credit Institute (KFW) on an € 65 million loan for the project: "Smart power grids -  Transmission efficiency (stage 1)".

As smart energy plays an important role in urban development, Vietnam plans to develop smarter, cleaner, greener and more sustainable energy resources for its cities, said experts at a recent summit in Hanoi devoted to sharing initiatives, experiences and cooperation between Vietnamese cities and other urban centers in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

On September 19th, 2014, in Ho Chi Minh city, the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) and Siemens Consortium including Siemens AG, Power Automation – a joint venture between Siemens and Power Singapore, and Siemens Limited Vietnam sign a contract for package DEP-SPC-SCADA-1, which includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the SCADA/DMS and 110kV Unmanned Substations.
