The North-South 500 kV transmission line has provided two decades of power to the national grid thanks to the mutual efforts of its technical staff. Vietnam Economic News’ Ngoc Loan interviewed Communist Party’s Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Electricity Group National Power Transmission Corporation Dang Phan Tuong about the effectiveness of the line.

Ensuring the progress of the smart power grid development project is an important factor to reduce power transmission, distribution costs and other costs to develop power sources. This objective was also stated in Prime Ministerial Decision 1670/2012/QD-TTg.

The Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to speed the plan of the smart power grid development, enhance the power system operation efficiency, and stimulate the saving and efficiency energy use.

According to the informaton fom The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), in second half of the year, EVN will strive to energize and start many power grid projects as expected schedule.

As part of an extensive program to ensure a reliable national power supply in Vietnam, Siemens received an order from the state-run energy company, Electricity of Vietnam National Load Dispatch Centre (EVN NLDC), to improve the performance of the nationwide transmission grid. Siemens will supply and install products and systems for detecting and evaluating failure situations in the grid, for ensuring grid quality and for detecting and monitoring dynamic grid states.

The Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) held a ceremony for signing a grand fund agreement for the project on building the implementing plan and overall architecture of information technology (IT) to develop smart power grid in EVNCPC to 2020, with a vision to 2025.

The Prime Minister has just approved a list of the stage 3 power transmission grid projects, invested by loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the German Reconstruction Credit Institute (KFW).

In PV systems, there can be errors caused by problems on the grid side. As an important operating function of a solar PV system and the grid, inverters are very sensitive to grid problems and will respond quickly. Among them, grid imbalance faults, although rare, can easily affect inverters, PV systems and sometimes even loads. In this Solis seminar, we will share information on "grid unbalanced" or G-PHASE errors that appear in PV systems and their solutions.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) informed: Recently, there a number of power grid projects for releasing power of solar and wind projects was completed over progress. However, to strengthen the ability of the power grids for releasing power of renewable energy (RE) in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces, EVN proposes to supplement a number  of power grid projects in these provinces to the power development planning (PDP).

The Prime Minister has agreed to allow adjusting and supplementing several 500 kV power grid projects.

In 2016, Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) has powered 619 power grid projects with a total investment level of about VND 6,548 billion. Among these projects there are many important projects.

The Central Power Corporation and Finland’s ABB Oy Company launched mini Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system projects in the central and Central Highlands regions with the aim to develop a smart power grid there.
