The Chairman of PVEP Member Council has been in charge of ASCOPE General Secretary

At the ceremony, Mr. Nopporn Chuchinda, ASCOPE General Secretary for 2014 – 2019 Term, representing PTT, handed over the executive authority to Mr. Tran Hong Nam, the new General Secretary for the 2019-2024 Term.

The ceremony was performed in the witness of PVN General Director Le Manh Hung, PTT General Director Chansin Treenuchagron, the members of ASCOPE Council and representatives of national petroleum companies of 10 ASEAN countries.

The event that PVN, first time, undertakes the function of  ASCOPE General Secretary shows a deep and broad integration, and positive role of PVN and its member units into ASEAN petroleum community, and more enhanced role of Vietnam in ASEAN.

The ASCOPE council was founded on October 15, 1975, and PVN has become a member of this council since 1996.

Speaking at the event, the new General Secretary of ASCOPE council Mr. Tran Hong Nam informed that the Council's action program of the council for 2019 - 2024 term will focus on strengthening dialogue exchanges, sharing experiences and seeking opportunities for cooperation and investment among the members in ASEAN region, a region has an energy demand growth of 60% in recent 15 years.

The ASCOPE council will also  prioritize to deal with  the climate change, decrease in petroleum reserves and energy resources, conversion of energy structure to support sustainable development, applying science and technology, and the results of Industry revolution 4.0 for exploiting oil and gas by the most efficient and environmentally friendly way.

Mr. Tran Hong Nam holds a PhD in Petroleum and had a teaching job for many years at New South Wales University in Sydney, Australia. Working in Vietnam Oil and Gas Industry since 2007, he experienced many professional positions and held the position of General Director of POC East Sea before being appointed as Chairman of PVEP member council.

That, the Chairman of PVEP was introduced to undertake the function of General Secretary of ASCOPE for 2019-2024 term, shows the role of PVEP, and the confidence of PVN leaders as well as of the regional petroleum community for PVEP in general and for Mr. Nam personally, in particular. It is the honor and responsibility for the employees of PVEP to continue their efforts to successfully fulfill the production and business tasks and to make the realistic contributions to the activities of PVN and ASCOPE in coming time.
