Phu Cuong Group, GE (US) and Mainstream Group (Ireland) have signed an investment cooperation agreement on wind power project in Soc Trang province with a capacity up to 800 MW and a total investment of about US$ 2 billion.
The signing ceremony took place in the witness of Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang and Ireland President Michael D. Higgins.
As the plan, the project will be built on a coastal alluvial ground of Soc Trang Province. The financial arrangement for the stage 1 of the project with a capacity of 150-200MW will be completed by 2018.
According to the assessment, this will be a typical environment protection project of the energy industry, suitable with the policy on diversification of energy sources, laying the foundation for the development of renewable energy sector in Vietnam in the coming years.
On the other hand, the construction of wind power farm on coastal alluvial ground will take advantage sea surface area, improve land use efficiency, limit adverse impacts on the lives and activities of people.
