After five year pause of construction, the First Solar project  for producing solar panels invested by the First Solar (USA) in the Southeastern Industrial Park of Ho Chi Minh city has been recently restarted. Along with restarting up the stopped first project, First Solar Inc. will invest an additional.

$360 million for the second project with a capacity of 1.2 GW of PV solar panels per year, increasing the total investment in two projects to $830 million/$1.2 billion of the commited capital.

The first project was granted an investement certificate in Januanry 2012 and started for construction rightly 02 months later. However, only eight months after the project had to stop due to the imbalance of solar PV products on the global market.

It is known, until the time of stopping the first project, First Solar had spent about $50 million for building 107,000m2 of the workshop and 6,000m2 of housing.

According to the design, when coming into operation, the two projects of First Solar could produce solar panels type of Series 6 with a total capacity of 2.4 GW per year. The projects expect to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018.

As assessment of many specialists, First Solar is a worldwide leading company in PV solar panels of membrane technology. This is a major weapon of the First Solar to deal with Chinese competitors based on polycrystalline silicon technology.
