EVN and AREVA exchange Cooperation Opportunities for Nuclear Power - 

On November 9, 2015, the Chairman of the Member Council  of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Duong Quang Thanh received Mr. Philippe Varin – Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France cum Chairman of the French Nuclear Corporation - AREVA for exchange  of the opportunities for cooperation in the energy and nuclear energy sectors.

At the meeting, Mr. Philippe Varin introduced to Mr. Duong Quang Thanh the nuclear reactor of advanced boiling water technology (ABWR).

According to AREVA Chairman, in comparison with the existing technologies ABWR is the most safe and stable technology in term of system high competitive in term of prices. The Chairman said, AREVA is interested in the Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Project developed in future in Vietnam. At the same time AREVA also desires to cooperate in training staffs on management, communication, operation and projects on handling and recycling spent fuel rods in nuclear power sector.

Mr. Duong Quang Thanh introduced the past process and future orientation of EVN development. Regarding Ninh Thuan 2 NPP, Mr. Thanh said, EVN has decided to invest in the project on the basis of the regulations of Vietnam’s Law, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and international experiences as well.

The EVN Chairman also hoped AREVA to co-ordinate and support EVN in training staffs on NPP management, operation, as well as sharing and exchanging experiences on this area, besides the investments to other energy projects of EVN.
