Dong Thap province will develop solar power projects on paddy field and lakes

This project is proposed by the consortium of Construction Technical Development Joint Stock Company and Hong Nam Communication Computer Joint Stock Company. The project values 420 billion VND of which 84 billion (20%) from the consortium including 42.8 billion from Construction Technical Development and 41.2 billion from Hong Nam Communication Computer Joint Stock Company. 

The project will be operated for 50 years on an area of 22ha, among which 15.9 ha is water surface under management of Hong Ngu town people’s committee (the investors lease from state without any auction) and 6.1 ha is paddy field transferred from inhabitants to investors by a transfer agreement between them.

It is necessary to emphasize that Dong Thap is a provice with high potential of solar energy - the intensity of solar radiation varies from 4.5 to 5 kWh / m2 / day, the number of sunny hours in the year is quite high, reaching from 2,200 to 2,500 hours / year. However, the land of the province is mostly agricultural land with effectively producing rice and the fallow land is very low, therefore investors have researched to install solar cells on the roofs of the warehouses, workshops of the enterprises and households.

At the present, in Dong Thap, there are the Sao Mai 1 rooftop PV project with a capacity of 1.06 MW, the Vam Cong industrial complex (Lap Vo district) rooftop solar PV with the same capacity of 1.06 MW providing enterprise about 2 million kWh per year (20% electricity demand of the enterprise), and around 300 households use rooftop solar PV with the beginning investment of 20 – 50 million VND/ household.

Besides, investors took advantage of the surface area of the aquaculture ponds available to install the solar PV systems.
