Vietnam - Korea seminar on energy storage in clean power development

 - The international seminar “ New technologies on electricity supplies and grids, renewable energy and energy storage system” held by Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) and Korea ESS Industries Development Association (KEIDA) in cooperation with Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), PetroVietnam (PVN) and Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) on 14/3/2017 in Hanoi and 16/3/2017 in Ho Chi Minh city.

VEA Chairman Tran Viet Ngai

According to the VEA Chairman Tran Viet Ngai, this is an international seminar that deeply deals with the new technologies of electricity supplies and grids, renewable energy, and specially, energy storage system.

Mr. Ngai said: Vietnam has a high potential of renewable energy as wind, solar and biomass energy, but at the present, there are many difficulties to effectively exploit these energy resources. High costs and low prices are the most serious barriers. Therefore, to promote strong renewable energy development, it is necessary to make policies and mechanisms for the land and infrastructure advantage and cost decrease.

Mr. Pr. Chang Ho Choi, KEIDA Chairmen expressed: “Korea has achieved considerable successes in energy demand management. In recent years, the energy relevant technologies and industries as demand side management, renewable energy, power smart grids, electricity trams and energy storage system (ESS) were promptly developed through the energy industries promoted by Korea Government.

I hope that Korea energy technologies will be applied in Vietnam, based on spirit of Vietnam – Korea friendship and confidence in the era when energy is friendly with environment, for which all the countries in the world participate in decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG)…”

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Dang Huy Cuong, Director of General Energy Department (MOIT) said: Today, in Vietnam the traditional primary energy sources as hydropower, coal and gas have been increasingly depleted. Therefore, developing the clean energy sources as wind, solar, biomass… plays a very important role.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vy, VEA Vice Chairmen informed that the Vietnamese Government has approved the Renewable Energy Development Strategy up to 2050 which expects that by 2050 the output from renewable energy sources (including hydropower) should reach 43% of the total power generation in the whole country.

According to EVN expert, Dr. Tran Thu Tra, at the present, EVN pays considerable attention to renewable energy development. According to Mrs. Tra, wind and solar power capacity in Vietnam estimate respectively as 2000 and 4000 MW by 2025, 6000 and 12000 MW by 2030.

At the seminar, Vietnam Electricity Equipment Corporation (THIBIDI) presented the overall solution on renewable energy and smart electricity grids in Vietnam including smart electronic meters - GELEX – EMIC and high efficiency transformers with the amorphous steel core (AMT) – THIBIDI, the high-tech equipment purely “made in Vietnam”. This is a proud contribution of THIBIDI to development of the smart power system in Vietnam.
