The 12th National Technological Innovation Awards

The 12th National Technological Innovation Awards were organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations Chairman Dang Vu Minh said that this year’s contest attracted thousands of projects, of which, 552 were considered at the local level.

The organization board granted awards to 88 projects, including five first prizes.

Projects participating in the contest were divided into six sectors, including information technology, electronics and telecommunications; mechanical automation, construction and transport; materials, chemicals and energy; agriculture, forestry, fishery and natural resources; health and pharmaceuticals; and education and training.

Many winning projects have proven advantages and have not been inferior to imported products. The best project on using DP2 dynamic positioning ships to install oil pipelines from the Vietsovpetro’s Offshore Construction Division has contributed to saving the budget of about US$4.5 million for oil pipeline installation and replacement each time.

The project on using semi-automatic glass cutting machines from the Truong Son Plastic Door Joint Stock Company has contributed to reducing 90 percent of power consumption and saving costs. In particular, glass cutting machines can also cut two sides of pane of glass, contributing to improving productivity with cutting speed of one meter per second.

The project on manufacturing footballs by artificial leather from Thanh Hoa Province’s Delta Sport Equipment Joint Stock Company has brought greater economic efficiency. The company’s products have effectively competed against footballs manufactured by traditional cowhide. In particular, the company’s products have higher quality and have been exported to 22 countries in the world.

At the ceremony, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Chairman Nguyen Thien Nhan said that award-winning authors have confirmed Vietnam’s great potential in terms of science and technology. Projects have shown the will and creativity of the Vietnamese. Every developing business and country must be able to compete in the international arena. In addition to advantages of low labor costs and political stability, businesses need to apply scientific and technological achievements into production.
