Vietnam and India continue to cooperate in petroleum development on the East Sea

 - Vietnam is determined to protect the rights and maintain permanent activities on the territorial waters sovereignty and continues to cooperate with other countries, including India, to explore and exploit the natural resources in it’s economic prerogative zones...

RIA Novosti, a Russian Information Agency quoting information from the Economic Times, an Indian electronic newspaper, said, Vietnam has asked India to expand cooperation for exploration and exploitation of natural resources in the economic prerogative zones of Vietnam on the East Sea.

At a seminar in India, Mr. Ton Sinh Thanh Vietnamese Ambassador to India affirmed: Paracel and Spratly Islands in the East Sea belong to Vietnam, Vietnam has sufficient historical evidence and legal basis to assert it’s sovereignty in this area.

Vietnam is determined to defend the sovereignty of these islands and also ready to cooperate with the parties of the sovereign statement to solve the territorial disputes in Paracel and Spratly islands by a peaceful way and in accordance with international Laws.

Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh stated: Vietnam has sovereign right and jurisdiction in a 200 mile exclusive zone and continental shelf under the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) - 1982.

"We are determined to protect the rights and maintain permanent activities in the territorial waters sovereignty, and continue to cooperate with other countries, including India to explore and exploit the natural resources in our economic exclusive zone", Economic Times quoted the statement of Vietnamese Ambassador to India.

According to Economic Times, Vietnam attaches special importance to expand cooperation with India and other countries in  situation, when China is more and more taking perverse actions with an ambition to monopolize the East Sea.

The Indian newspaper also informed, Indian oil rigs have been present for a long time on Vietnamese continental shelf area and economic exclusive zone to carry out petroleum development for Vietnam and affirmed, Indian State Petroleum Company ONGC - Videsh Ltd. (OVL) will not decline it’s presence on the East Sea despite the recent stressful actions of China.
