Signing the Agreement for investment in Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Project

 - The signing ceremony of Agreement for investment in Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Project (TPP) between Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and Consortium of Investors of Marubeni (Japan) and KEPCO (Korea) took place in Ha Noi on November 15, 2016.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Dang Huy Cuong, General Director of General Department of Energy (GDE), MOIT, shows that this signing ceremony is a result of effort of GDE, Thanh Hoa people’s Committee, relevant ministries, agencies and investors in about 2 year discussion under direction of Vietnam government and MOIT.

Nghi Son 2 BOT TPP with a capacity of 1200 MW (2x600) total investment level of US$2.3 billion, using import coal has assigned for Marubeni – KEPCO consortium to develop after a generous international bidding process.

The project developed in Nghi Son Economic Zone (Thanh Hoa) will contribute in guaranteeing electricity supply for economic development in the northern region and energy security of the country.

“With the responsibility assigned by MOIT, GDE commits to continuously guide, create and closely coordinate with investors in process of applying the Investment Certificate a financial arrangement with the international credit institutions”, Mr. Cuong said.

On behalf of MOIT, Mrs. Ho Kim Thoa, Deputy Minister high appreciated efforts of investors and Vietnamese partners in negotiation process. She also informed that Vietnam government has put forward the guidelines and policies to encourage domestic and international investors to participate in developing power plants by BOT form. At the end, Mrs. Thoa expressed her hope that Nghi Son 2 BOT TPP will start on schedule and be put into commercial operation by 2021 – 2022 in accordance with the government guidance.
