Vietnam - Norway strengthen cooperative ties - 

Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon and Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan on Wednesday in Ha Noi held talks to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway began their four-day official visit to Viet Nam at the invitation of Ms. Doan on the day.

Vice State President Doan warmly welcomed the first visit of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit especially on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the tour of Norwegian King and Queen to Viet Nam in 2004 and the 200th anniversary of the National Day of Norway.

Viet Nam, said Ms. Doan always attaches importance to the relations with traditional friends in the Northern Europe, including Norway.

The Vice State President also underscored that Viet Nam would create favorable conditions for Norwegian investors to strengthen their footholds in Viet Nam particularly in the areas of maritime, ship-building, hydro-electricity, renewable energy, petroleum and aquaculture.

The host leader took the occasion to thank the ODA provider and hoped that Norway would continue to offer more ODA for Viet Nam in such fields as climate change, forest protection, natural resource management, education and training.

Both Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit showed their impression over socio-economic development in Viet Nam. They also affirmed that the royal family and Government of Norway also want to boost ties with Viet Nam.

The Norwegian side thanked Viet Nam’s support for the closer ties with ASEAN.

Crown Prince Haakon affirmed his support for bilateral economic linkages. Over 50 Norwegian leading enterprises joined his delegation, showing their interests in trade and investment opportunities in Viet Nam.

The two sides agreed to finalize negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Viet Nam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in 2014, setting a favorable legal foundation for trade and investment cooperation in the coming time.

During the visit, Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon also met with PM Nguyen Tan Dung.

PM Dung suggested the two sides boost educational and cultural cooperation and support each other at international forums especially the UN.

Mr. Dung also hoped Norway to make more positive contributions to the negotiation for a free trade agreement between Viet Nam and the EU.

For his part, Crown Prince Haakon underlined that he would spare no effort to beef up the trade and investment ties between the two countries.
