Dung Quat Economic Zone attracts investments in energy projects

The Quang Ngai Investment promotion conference 2016 with the theme “Quang Ngai – potential and investment opportunities” was organized on August 10 at Dung Quat Economic Zone. The conference was chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and attracted a participation of over 380 delegates.

Speaking at the conference, the Prime Minister focused on his plan to see that Vietnam develops not only economically, but also in ways that assure that the environment is not damaged and that workers have a safe and healthy place to work.

Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc recognized Doosan Vina for its strong commitment to the environment and safety and challenged the company to do even more.  He also agreed with Jung’s proposals regarding investments in education and support of industry whenever possible.

Doosan Vina - a largest FDI in the area is one out of 380 delegates attend this important conference. Speaking at the conference, Mr. Yeon In Jung, CEO and GD of Doosan Vina also spoke and highlighted the many achievements that Doosan Vina has made since opening in 2009.  Jung detailed some of the company’s projects including the 1,200 MW Mong Duong II power plant in Quang Ninh as well as the Vinh Tan 4, Song Hau 1 and Vinh Tan 4 Extension power plants.

He explained that the company’s strategy is to train up a Vietnamese work force that can help support the government’s objective of creating a strong domestic industrial sector while supplying the infrastructure needs of Vietnam.  He also explained that another part of the company’s strategy revolves around “Made in Vietnam” products for the international market. “Today, in addition to the domestic projects mentioned earlier, there are Doosan Vina products hard at work in 28 countries all over the globe.  These products were made by the nearly 2,500 Vietnamese who work at Doosan Vina’s 110 hectare Quang Ngai complex under some of the most stringent and through environmental and safety standards practiced anywhere in the world,” said Jung.

Overview of the Conference

Doosan Vina’s CEO also spoke of the advantages and disadvantages of operating in Quang Ngai as well as suggesting some ways that the government could help improve the investment climate in the province.  Top among those was improvements to the education system so that graduates are ready for work when they finish school and more in line with international norms.
