The Inauguration of Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant.

Speaking at the Ceremony, PM Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that, Vung Ang 1 TPP successful construction has a turning significance because this is a coal fired power plant with the biggest in Vietnam so far unit capacity (600 MW) and advanced and modern technology. Coal for the TPP is mainly domestic.

The Prime Minister high appreciated and praised the efforts of the cadres, engineers and workers on the construction site to overcome many difficulties, rise to master the new technology, raise ability of Erection industry and contribute to socio-economic development of the country.

"It is a great pleasure to see the staff of our engineers and workers grown up for self-control in developing hydropower coal- and gas-fired thermal power plants", the Prime Minister said.

Vung Ang 1 TPP is invested by PVN and constructed by Lilama Corporation EPC. The total capacity of the plant is 1,200 (2x600) MW with the units No.1 and No.2 putting into commercial operation on December 31, 2014 and May 12, 2015 respectively.

The project uses the advanced, high efficiency pulverized coal-fired technology, good satisfying environmental protection requirements. This is the one of a few projects with a high localization rate of 30%, in which, there was a package with a localization rate up to 55%.

Since the date of the first unit commercial operation, the the plant has supplied over 3 billion kWh to the National Power System.

It is expected that the plant will supply averagely about 7.2 billion kWh per year accounting for VND 7000-8000 billion per year, contributing to meet the power demand of the region particularly and the National Power System generally, and taking an important part in the general turnover of PVN, and central and local budget revenue

At the Inauguration of unit No.1 of Formosa Thermal Power Plant, PM Nguyen Tan Dung praised, high appreciated the initial success of Formosa during the project implementation process. This success will open a clear prospect for developing the projects of Son Duong iron and steel complex and deepwater port, and for the socio-economic development of Ha Tinh province as well.

Unit No 1 of Formosa TPP (150 MW) has been started in December 2013, after nearly two years of construction, equipment installation, on March 21, 2015, it has completed the test run and April 28, 2015 it has official operated and connected to the National Power Grid.

This is one out of five thermal power units that the Formosha has deployed in the first stage of the Iron and Steel Complex and Son Duong deep-water port construction project, with a total capacity of 650 MW.

After finished and put into operation, the units will supply 470 MW serve for the steel refining items of stage 1 and the remaining 180 MW will be sold to EVN to connect to the national power grid.
