Located at the Khai Long–Ca Mau Tourism Site, it is the first wind power project in Ca Mau and also the largest in the Mekong Delta.

Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and Former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung were among the guests at the ground-breaking ceremony for the project.

In the first phase, the plant will be built on a total area of 2,185ha at a cost of over VND5.5 trillion (US$ 247.5 million), featuring 50 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 100MW. It is expected to generate 280 million KWh of electricity once operational after 36 months.

Invested in by Cong Ly Construction–Trade–Tourism Co., the project also includes a 22/110kV substation, fifty 0,69/22kV substations, a 2.6km-long 22kV line and an undersea cable system over 62km long to connect the turbines.

At the ceremony, Nguyen Tien Hai, Chairman of the Ca Mau Province People’s Committee, stated that Ca Mau, with 254km of coastline, had great potential for wind energy generation at sea. The province had developed a wind power development plan for the period until 2020 with a vision to 2030, he added.

Renewable energy from wind power would not only contribute to reducing environmental pollution, creating more jobs for local workers, and increasing budget revenues for Ca Mau, but would also increase local power generation to facilitate voltage for industrial parks and economic zones in the province, Chairman Hai said, adding that the plant would also create favourable conditions for Ca Mau’s industrial and tourism development in the near future./.
