The Prime Minister’s directions on ensuring coal supply for power generation - 

Government Office informed, the Prime Minister had the directions on ensuring coal supply for power generation.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister assigns Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) to guide the investors of thermal power plants (TPPs) as Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), PetroVietnam (PVN), and Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd (Vinacomin) to carefully calculate coal demand for power generation at the present and future for preparing the concrete plans of its domestic production and import to ensure the power generation of TPPs.

MOIT to direct Vinacomin, Northeast Coal Corporation and other coal production and business enterprises to review and balance their capabilities (domestic production and import) to sufficiently and stably supply coal for TPPs.

MOIT in coordination with the Ministry of National Resources and Environment, Vinacomin and relevant Agencies to study and calculate the potential of the other coal sources as Red River coal basin… to have alternatives and solutions for ensuring coal supply in future.

Vinacomin, Northeast Corporation and other coal supply companies to work with EVN to make the long-term and stable coal supply plans for its TPPs in accordance with the regulations of the laws.

The Prime Minister has agreed to allow the Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation to actively import coal for its TPP.
