Through consistent investment in environmental protection with a large scale wastewater treatment system and clean power operation zones, the Mao Khe Thermal Power Company (Quang Ninh province) has distinguished itself through its commitment to environmentally-friendly practices.

From the awareness of environment protection, the Mao Khe Thermal Power actively worked on solutions and submitted their environmental reform plans to higher agencies. The plans were quickly approved with a determination to help the plant maintain operation and ensure its role in the national grid system.

Covering an area of 72ha in Dong Trieu District, Quang Ninh Province, the power plant is equipped with two turbines that have a combined capacity of 440MW and consumes the dust of coal transported from Mao Khe, Trang Bach, Khe Chuoi and Hong Thai mines to generate electricity.

The Mao Khe Thermal Power Plant is the key project under the national electricity master plan that has been approved by the Government. Mao Khe Thermal Power Plant provides around 2.6 billion kWh of electricity for the national grid per year. Mao Khe Power was also the first coal-fired power plant in Viet Nam was completed ahead of schedule.

Le Minh Chuan, general director of Vinacomin said the plant used environmentally friendly technology known as the circulating fluidised-bed (CFB) combustion technology that has been used in other Vinacomin's project such as Na Duong, Cao Ngan, Son Dong and Cam Pha.

In addition, the Mao Khe Thermal Power JSC funded the upgrading of its production premises, grew more green trees and grass cover and improved water drainage systems, contributing to improving the workplace environment.

In the coming time, Mao Khe Thermal Power aims to continue to invest in production facilities for efficient business activities as well as for a sustainable environment in the plant.
